Norwegian alt-pop queen Hanne Mjøen is back with her highly anticipated EP, Fall In Love / Apart. Amongst her intoxicating tales and humbling persona, her next chapter explores her journey to find the strength to say it as it is.
As she navigates love’s tribulations with flourishing energy and intoxicating musicality, we’re reminded of her unique ability to unite her perspectives into pop perfection. With spine-tingling progressions and synth-driven melodies, her stories unfold into blissful tunes that provoke thought and movement alike.
Delving into the insubordination of love, stand-out singles “Distance” and “I Never Told You” come to life. Mjøen confides, "I have a bad habit of distancing myself to people as soon as I feel like I’m not being seen. Talking about how I feel isn't something I do naturally, and I start acting out and changing desperately to get a confrontation, and then forcing myself to speak about it to defend my actions. It's a very bad way of handling things, but in my head it feels more natural to cut the tires than to fix them. “Distant” is describing the desperation you feel when people can’t see the way you’re trying to tell them that something is wrong."
Yet, it’s Mjøen’s ability to blend intimacy with an intricacy that makes her new EP such a delight. She continues, “Everyone has bad sides and struggles and through the lyrics I wanted to put mine on the table, letting the one you love know that if you want a love of eternal sunshine, I’ll give you the opposite. I’ll make it hard for you to love me cause, unfortunately, I’m not a perfect person either."
Despite the melancholy that flows throughout, there’s a hopeful undercurrent to Fall In Love / Apart. Revealing the strength that can only amount from life’s obstacles, Mjøen shows no fear when it comes to transparency. She owns her dreamy pop sound and chronicles alike, proving that she is boundaryless when it comes to her creativity. She continues to leave an outstanding legacy in the alt-pop scene. We can’t wait to see her next chapter unfold.
