Electronic hip-hop duo CLOUDxCITY serves hypnotic melodies and vulnerable lyricism on latest release, “Maybe You’re The Reason.” The accompanying visual shows the duo’s singer, Enjel in a straightjacket and wheelchair as a beautiful woman torments him. Depicting a psych ward horror, the music video paints a picture of the track’s introspective lyrics of a past love.
“Maybe You’re The Reason” has a mellow hip-hop beat with steady synths and harmonies. Each verse is delivered with a smooth candor and a slight sadness. Enjel vocalizes the chorus, “Maybe you’re the reason why it all went wrong, maybe you’re the reason why I’m playing this song.” The beat picks up over the hook and slows for the verses while keeping the same melody. The artist shares his hurt and pain from a past relationship through each bar, but the chorus feels therapeutic.
CLOUDxCITY is creating a lane for themselves as a duo in the industry. Combining both their respective talents, the group’s members Enjel and TAS have come together to produce a genre-bending sound all their own.
