Brother-sister duo ALEXANDRA JOHN explores self-sabotage and the hidden human urge to self-destruct on new single “Strung Out,” the sophomore single taken from their forthcoming EP Healing.
A futuristic pop-disco number infused with a tinge of future R&B, the track is built on a rich instrumental combination of piano, synth, guitar, bass and horns all woven together by infectious vocal lines, with a soaring chorus “Just when I thought that I knew you/ I am strung out/I am strung out/Spread thin and nothing left for you/ I am strung out/ I am strung out,”
Representing touches of toxicity we all hold within us and attempt to escape from, “Strung Out,” takes a self-aware look at how sometimes thing or person we perceive as comfort is actually the cause of our pain. The contemplative track is accompanied by a cinematic yet casual music video which further elevates the narrative of aimless escapism, partying through the night into sunrise, ending on a note that urges us to face reality – no matter how harsh it might be.
Raised in a household of rhythm and rhyme, twins Liza and Weston as ALEXANDRA JOHN have developed an expertise for cathartic sonic explorations which draw on personal darkness, moving throughfull emotive scales fromadversity, grieving and vulnerability into positivity and healing – as heard on “Strung Out.”
