Rapper,producer and singer Gabou was balancing his day job as a Web Developer with music but in 2019, he decided to just focus on his musical career and dropped his debut EP Casual Riot the same year. He went on to release more than a handful of singles under the lofi/chill genre while working with different artists.
Today, he joins forces with Montclair, New Jersey-based singer-songwriter Tally, and Devon Rea for this laid-back soulful summer jam titled "When You're Around". The track has a nostalgic and warm aesthetic made up of lush mellow strings, soft airy pads, and chilled grooves.
The record is underpinned by Tally's ethereal melodic runs and heartfelt lyrics that pay homage to that special person who lifts your spirits up. The production once again is quite sublime and blends perfectly with the vocal arrangement which sits right on the groove. As Gabou puts it, the track is an anthem for summer lovers, sun-baked lying on a beach or cruising with the top down, warm wind through your hair.
