A founding member of Indie outfit Swim Deep, Wolfgang Harte is bringing a new solo project to the table in the form of Heavy Wild.
Debut single "Special Powers" as indescribably sexy aura to it, floating within Heavy Wild's self-described 'dream-grunge' sonic realm. There is an instant nostalgia to the track, as if we've been here before, with a chorus that brings reassurance and optimism.
Coming in at nearly five minutes, muted rock instrumentation creeps up on you, the pace rising and falling with vocal stacks coming and going and distant riffs worming their way into your ears. Heavy Wild cites influences as cinema, photography and art, and this track is certainly something out of a movie. Rumbling bass and a hint of organ brings a euphoric element that instantly takes a hold.
Speaking about the new track, Heavy Wild says "Special Powers combines the low-slung sleaze of The Velvet Underground and The Strokes with dreamier, washed-out elements of surf-rock to create a sound which is both laid-back yet anthemic, gritty yet soaring."
"Special Powers" is without a doubt the start of longer journey, and an instant classic at that. Something new is being brought to the music scene, refreshing and innovative yet comforting in its presence.
