Joel Baker shares new single “Baby Teeth” featuring Jordy and James Vickery

Nottingham-bred singer/ songwriter and poet Joel Baker describes his sound as “somewhere between J Cole and Joni Mitchell with storytelling right at its heart." Joel released his debut EP Long Sleeves in 2013, followed by Bag of Dreams mixtape in 2017 which included collaborations with Maths Time Joy and rapper Abra Cadabra. Subsequent EP’s Winter Dreams and Prayer Emojis reinforced his authentic lyricism even further

Today he caught our ears with his new release "Baby Teeth", which sees him teaming up with Essex-based rapper Jordy and acclaimed singer/ songwriter James Vickery. The track is made up of melancholic and somber textures, with soft drums that pave the way for Joel's pensive wordplay, laidback flow, and reflective lyrics about life, death, and finding new meaning in the space between those two things. James ties it up with an uplifting hook in the chorus section while Jordy adds his own nuanced experiences in the second verse, from trying to thread the clean path, to finding solace while soul searching for the true meaning of him being here. Overall the track is a brilliant, thoughtful contribution from all parties.

For its video release, Joel performs a solo version of the track featuring a thought-provoking poem. Its simple, cinematic backdrop switches between day and night to mirror the song's message of light and shade, while flashes of a warm, hot-air balloon-filled sky provide a resounding feeling of hope.
