Artist mimi bay always brings a gentle and intimate sound to all of her tracks and this is no different with the delivery of her newest track, "helium cowgirl." The singer-songwriter started her career on youtube and although she has moved on from making light-hearted videos in her bedroom, she has not stopped delivering magnificent content for her audience. This new song has come after the recent release of her EP, far from home in 2021. Mimi brings the same soft, angelic vocals to the forefront in this track as listeners loved on the previous EP.

The song is simple. Just her and a somber piano track with a few ambient sounds to accompany her in the background. The simplicity of the track emphasizes the lonesome feeling that this song embodies. It explores the themes of letting go of a rowdy lover who refuses to settle down and dealing with the melancholy feeling that accompanies the situation. She utilizes the metaphor of a “helium cowgirl,” to show the lover floating away from her as she tries to lasso them back down as a cowgirl would. This track was also partnered with beautiful visuals in her music video. In it she is pictured on a dark, red, silk-covered stage, accompanied by piano player, Leo Bengmark. She is singing this somber track to an unseen audience that throws flowers at the end of the performance.

Mimi thanked fans on Instagram for their support of the track, stating that this one was truly a “special project”. The world has enjoyed seeing immense growth come from mimi bay and there is much anticipation in waiting to see what she brings to the table next.
