Surf rock meets indie pop duo The Astronots have returned with a unique new single. Entitled "Malibu (demo)," the track is the first from the band in over two years and is released as part of the collaborative NFT album State College 333.

In "Malibu (demo)," the duo explore the perils of a toxic friendship and the time when someone realizes that someone they once called a friend is instead a foe. With lyrics including, "sitting in the bay catching some waves (not your big break) / was on your team but you turned out to be / just another bad dream / oh, my friends can't stand you / not many people do," the narrator acknowledges that their friend is a bad person who is quite unlikeable.

"Malibu (demo)," collides The Astronots sun-drenched sound with vivid imagery of Southern California beach culture, taking the listener to a memorable setting. Sonically, the track entices with dreamy nostalgic-dipped soundscapes full of effected guitars and driving basslines. Allee's honey-dipped vocals glide effortlessly across breezy 60's inspired soulful rock'n'roll.

The Astronots are composed of multi-instrumentalists Allee Fütterer and Niko Giaimo. The duo began releasing music in 2017 and since then their releases have received placements on various TV shows and films including CBS's Life in Pieces and Andrew Garfield’s Under The Silver Lake.

"Malibu (demo)," is the band's first foray into NFTs with the single being a featured track on the State College 333 album. The eight song collection is a multi-genre musical journey that was created by Allee Fütterer and Emma Cole and features other artists including Dresage, Pom Poms, Clayre (Kismit), Basti Reunert (Kismit), and Conny Franko. The NFT is available on opensea.
