The news is out that Chi-town super lyricist Lupe Fiasco is working on a new full-length project but in the interim, he shares a teaser single "AUTOBOTO," to whet his fan's appetite. As expected, the record is filled with a plethora of wordplay, off-kilter references, and layered meanings as he implores listeners that singular revolution is futile against the ever-growing corporation.
Once again, he calls up his longtime producer Soundtrakk who cooks up a scenic bouncy track that fits the bill. Lupe weaves through the soundscape with lines like "My warning shots, headshots, cut off all my dreadlocks/I ain't wanna head wash" referring to his current look and even drops a wild reference to the cult anime classic Golgo 13 along the way. The song switches at the tail end into a mellow, dreamy piece with vocalist Nayirah taking charge with her airy angelic melodic rendition of Lupe's lyrics.
"AUTOBOTO," is the lead single from Lupe's forthcoming 8th studio album DRILL MUSIC IN ZION, Coming June 24th via 1st & 15th/Thirty Tigers. Lupe adds that he created the project over a short period after receiving a folder of beats sent to him from Soundtrakk, as a matter of fact, the entire project was done in a mere 3 days.
Lupe recently launched his "LFT" program, a new NFT program that allows fans to get closer than ever to Lupe. Unlike many NFTs, which solely exist in the digital space, the "LFT" program offers token-holders an array of online and offline benefits. The benefits start with a generative art profile pic–each LFT holder gets a unique digital artwork inspired by Lupe's album Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, which celebrates its 15th birthday this year.
