Indie pop band MisterWives just dropped their new single and video for "Easy". The platinum certified band, who is celebrated for their glimmering pop sounds and colorful bubblegum aesthetic, has captured the hearts and minds of listeners across the globe since their debut back in 2014, and their rise to fame even resulted in touring with Twenty One Pilots.
"Easy" is part of the band's dual release, marking the creation of their own record label, Resilient Little Records. Thematically, the song's tone is contrary to the title, and explores moving through darker emotions connected to inner struggle, unexpected changes, and loss. Full of raw passion and unfiltered energy, "Easy" features the band's signature mix of glowing vocals, catchy pop melodies, and dynamic synths for a magic beamed spectrum of sounds. Lyrics such as "Soften all my edges // try to bend and take the lessons // I don't fight what would have happened all along" and a chorus that explodes passionately starting out, "Cut me deeper to stop the bleeding // it gets easier // but it's not easy," creates a familiar connection to finding strength in the most difficult of times.
In the accompanying video for "Easy", it opens with a house uprooted and flying through the air – immediately I thought of Dorothy's house from the classic film "The Wizard of Oz". Then, surprisingly, the viewer finds himself inside the lush, dream-like house where plants, vines and flowers grow freely. Lead singer Mandy Lee dances around in an uninhibited way, almost as if she has been seduced by the free-flowing energy that is emerging from the house. Colorful, symbiotic, and passionately executed, the video reminds us that upheaval doesn't necessarily have to be bad. Perceptions of a troubling time can be reinvented and reshaped in our minds so that we experience a sense of transformational growth and creative rebirth.
MisterWives is composed of frontwoman Mandy Lee and her bandmates Etienne Bowler (drums), William Hehir (bass), Marc Campbell (guitar), and Mike Murphy (saxophone). The New York-bred band just launched Resilient Little Records, a partnering with Photo Finish Records/Virgin Music. "Easy" was released alongside "Where Do We Go From Here", as part of a fresh start for the band, who is also set to embark on a headlining North American tour following the release.
Check out the visuals for "Easy" and remember no matter the obstacle, you will always find your way back home.
