Rising Nigeran act Boy Spyce drops his eponymous debut EP as he fully explodes into the scene with the help of Africa's top music label, Mavin Records. As a student in the record label's music academy, Boy Spyce has honed his skills under the best hands and the proof is in the listening. The 5 track body of work displays his fluid melodic style, heartfel,t, evocative songwriting, and use of relatable elements and anecdotes that anyone can follow.

Kicking off with the solemn "Dreams", Boy Spyce muses on personal loss and growth. Underpinned by somber guitar plucks and rich soulful textures, the young singer pours his heart on wax and uses it as an outlet to let go of the pain. In "bad Things," he employs a hypnotic soundscape to express his sensual desires to his partner and subtly describes how he would please her on all fronts. This is followed by "Wayo" a bouncy track ripe with Spanish guitar riffs, soothing strings, and groovy drums to match his lilting vocals. In this tune, he appeals to his lover not to take advantage of him as he is head over heels in love. He truly is the element here as he brings out a blend of pidgin English with local slang to help drive home the point. The project closes out with the solemn "Nobody" and the nostalgic "Destiny". The former is ripe with a catchy hook, steady bounce, and an evergreen premise that everyone can vibe to. The latter land the project in a full circle and delivers an insightful message of having a work ethic and going out against all odds.

As a debut project, Boy Spyce covers familiar terrain with a little twist and fervor and gives listeners a steady dish of replayable jams. As a songwriter, he sure holds his own and he sounds like a seasoned vet already.

 Born Ugbekile David Osameke, Boy Spyce's roots can be traced to the ancient city of Benin in southern Nigeria. However, he was born and raised in Lagos, where family and the endlessly beating pulse of the city's mainland shaped and inspired his music. He became an internet sensation through song covers using his unmistakably unique voice and reflective lyrics.
