German-Canadian group Monako cannot fit into one musical category like most artists. I bet you wouldn’t believe that folk, R&B, indie with a touch of neo-jazz would work well. However, Monako is here to prove you wrong. After a two-year hiatus, the group has resurfaced and brought a cruising sonic single, “Know My Name.”
This latest track oscillates between different rhythms, harmonies, melodies and emotions. One second, there’s droning, slow bass and echoing keys. Then, it smoothly blends into a bright, starry pop song with distorted pianos and choir-like vocals. "Know My Name" is a cinematic listening experience with masterful production and vocal work. It's only just the beginning of the group’s upcoming full-length project, including several features revolving and a short film. This will all lead up to the release of a new EP, so remember their name when you hear more news coming soon.
