West Coast rap duo Fatlip (of Pharcyde fame) and Blu follow up their Madlib-produced "Gangsta Rap," with a new version of their song courtesy of single "Good For The Soul," featuring Hemlock Ernst with an additional verse from fellow West Coast legend Ras Kass. The track is a somber guitar-laden head-nodder ripe with bouncy drums and reflective textures. Fatlip kicks it off with his distinct laidback flow followed by Blu's no-nonsense wordplay, Hemlock's aggressive performance, and lastly, Ras Kass's characteristic lyrical stylings. The whole affair is tied up by excellent vocal scratches that sample Biggie Smalls, Andre 3000, and more.
" Good For The Soul (Extended Version)" is taken from the duo's forthcoming 11-track LP Live From the End of the World Vol. 1, (Demos), released via LA/Tokyo-based Guilty By Association (GBA). The project is helmed by Christopher Shaw who first met Fatlip at Coachella. After many sessions with Fatlip, Shaw decided to include Blu in the affair leading to a full-length project that will also feature hip hop vanguards like Knxwledge, Madlib, Del the Funky Homosapien, Gift of Gab, Chali 2na, Exile, Slimkid3, and more.
