G King and Blank Face Villain present a refreshing take on underground hip-hop with 'BLANK FACE KING'

Brooklyn-by-way-of-Detroit rapper G King and Chicago-based producer Blank Face Villain have shared a new collaborative EP titled BLANK FACE KING. The duo, who first began working together back in 2017, have released their first official joint project in this new EP. With a natural chemistry and an engaging, quirky sound, they present a refreshing take on underground hip-hop that pairs textured, layered production with charismatic, flexible rhyming.

A vibrant, psychedelic project, BLANK FACE KING explores a variety of dense soundscapes that conjure a dark and mercurial mood. Utilizing heavy, driving rhythms and percussive instrumentation, the production from Blank Face Villain is imposing, yet remains addictive throughout and never loses its sense of fun. Songs like EP opener "Thousand Eyes Restrict" define the project's vivid sound through gargantuan 808s and hazy vocal samples, creating a haunting atmosphere. A highly infectious instrumental also appears on "DOOTS", which captures the feeling of a fever dream through its usage of stuttering 808s, vicious drums, and sickly synths.

G King's rapping is equally ferocious, as his powerful cadence and rapid-fire flows make the listening experience simply gripping. On the track "Halleluyuh.WAVes" for example, he attacks the beat with unceasing energy, diving in and out of dynamic rhyme patterns that leave the listener spinning. When he slows it down, his performance is compelling as well, as made evident on tracks like "Brimstone" and the closer "WHALE SOUNDS", where he delivers a smoother, more laid-back flow. His overall range on the project keeps it engaging, as he refuses to conform to simply one style vocally.

All in all, BLANK FACE KING is a refreshing project that is willing to try new formulas, providing an exciting listening experience that never settles in one groove. A journey through psychedelic, nocturnal soundscapes that writhe with energy, this EP spares dull moments in favor of an enticing unpredictability.
