Far Rockaway, Queens raised rapper Flee Lord closes out the year with a final batting in the form of a collaborative project titled Mask & Glove. The project is an unprecedented hiphop/r&b collaboration with songstress Tiona Deniece, who is best known for her work with Westside Gunn and Griselda. The match-up is quite surprising as the duo comes from slightly different worlds but on wax, the chemistry is near perfect. Flee Lord brings his street savvy and edgy raps to the field while Deniece adds a soulful touch with her velvety melodic runs.
The project opens up with the somber "Honey" which dwells on loyalty and the unbreakable bond between two individuals. Flee opens up with a vivid lyrical output followed by Deniece's sultry vocals and lastly, G4Jag closes it with his booming vocals. In "Hood Love," Deniece takes the reins with a sulrty vocal performance and palys the role of a ride or die chick who holds it down for her man even in the face of adversity. She is joined by rising rapper BVNGS who adds a spicy touch to the record with a subtle melodic flow.
It's celebration time on the bright and uplifting "Flee Day" as both Flee and Deneice pour adulations over one another and toast to the good life after overcoming several hurdles. Records like "Mike Jack" and "All I Need" stick to similar themes with thick basslines, boom-bap drums and soulful cinematic textures reminiscent of the 90s. Overall, the duo understood the assigment and tap into that 90s R&B/ edgy hip-hop combination reminiscent of tracks like Method Man and Mary J Blige's "All I Need," Killah Priest and Tekitha's "One Love" amongst others.
Flee Lord has had a meteoric rise in the last couple of years. With monthly releases in 2020, he pushed his way into the upper echelon of underground Hip-Hop. In 2021 he focused on developing his Lord Mobb crew and label but he did drop the Roc Marciano produced project Delgado.
