Silvia Ryder has been releasing music under the name Sugarplum Fairies since 1998. Since then, the project has evolved greatly since, ranging from shoegaze, folk, and noir pop. Today, they have announced their new collection Altar Songs 1998-2021 and share the lead single, "Heart Hell 2021" featuring Sid Simons of Girl Skin with its new, artsy noir music video.

You would’ve thought you stepped straight into the past with this track. “Heart Hell” presents Silvia Ryder’s vocals as bluesy as Nico and emphatic as Hope Sandoval. The production is dreamy and cinematic with instrumentation that is really hard to distinguish. It all just sort of meshes so well together that you don’t need to follow a certain instrument or melody. The music video presents vintage VHS footage to match the vibe.

This new collection features numerous collaborations with artists of the same genres, giving each track it’s own flare and character. It’s always interesting to learn how an artist or band has changed with the times and how a lot of their work has remained timeless.
