Australian group RÜFÜS DU SOL returns with their first original single in three years, "Alive." On Zane Low's Apple Music 1 show, the trio also revealed that this track is the first release off a forthcoming larger body of work, and will be accompanied by an added set of dates to their North American tour, starting this summer.
Time, it seems, has not managed to wear down the group's cathartic tendencies. Over a slow-sizzling synth line, lead singer Tyrone Lindqvist's vocals cut through an ambient soundscape, professing "At least I'm alive!" in a heated self-exchange before being cooled off by the shaking drums and supporting acid-tipped synths. Though confessed to be a track born out of an innocent "show-and-tell," where James shared a song he recently discovered by another artist with the other two before the pandemic even hit, its telling lyrics and dramatic swings fittingly exemplifies this more recent transitional period as cities open up, and its inhabitants are left to navigate the aftermath of the past 18 months, and all the new standards of normal they have caused. But hey—at least they're alive.
