Anyone who caught the debut EP A Mirage (Meant to Last Forever) from Zoe’s Shanghai in 2019 can rest assured knowing that the group’s captivating sound was just a preview of what was to come. The Barcelona via-Paris quartet is preparing to release their first full-length album and the second single from the project, entitled “7min,” is premiering today on EARMILK. Following the otherworldly first offering “Mother,” the new track shows the group continuing to push boundaries with abundant soul and skill.
“7min” naturally drifts into existence with overlapping synth and guitar textures, creating a mesmerizing sonic foundation for singer Zoé Renié Harris. Her characteristically dexterous and emotive voice dances through the mix, weaving its way through the various twists in the arrangement. The group coalesces in the latter part of the track, showing their ability to lay into a groove and cultivate it to musical fruition. The astounding musical talents of Zoe’s Shanghai have already been established, and “7min” shows that their creative juices continue to flow as their sound explores uncharted and wholly entertaining realms. The upcoming LP should absolutely not be missed.
