Gatlin is blowing up this summer, and her indie-pop sound is perfectly packaged in her sophomore EP To Remind Me of Home.
The breadth of emotion and vulnerability that Gatlin showcases in this project capture what makes her such a standout. The shimmering "What If I Love You" embodies the dreamiest fling, it's this downpour of emotions. It's like a movie moment where everything comes together.
Then she can shift into a song like "Hospital," a sweet, melancholic song that feels so lonely and isolating and really shines a light on mental health struggles and the feeling of just wanting to get better. "she says in a recent press release, "It covers relationships and mental health – the two things most people in their early twenties are trying to navigate and figure out."
Gatlin captures that early twenty-something feeling of exploring one's identity and self-worth. She isn't afraid to show the messier sides of relationships. "Whenever He Asks" details a toxic relationship and moving past those feelings. The production is so bright and effervescent that you almost bypass the angst in the lyrics.
Sugarcoated" rounds out the EP with more of an indie-rock feel, her storytelling, and narrative lyric capabilities help provide a universal experience for all fans to relate to—the perfect balance of personal details and deeply personal emotions.
Gatlin was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She relocated to Nashville in 2017 to study at Belmont University but is now pursuing songwriting full-time. At just 22 years old, she has the perfect grasp on combining raw storytelling with inescapable melodies. Her debut EP Sugarcoated was released in summer 2020, and since then, she's amassed over 3.4 million Spotify streams and gained 230,000+ monthly listeners.
