Hip-hop/soul trio Captains Of The Imagination share the video of their latest single "Wassup" with us this week. The record dives into more soulful territory with the mellow, euphonious production and their seamless blend of sultry melodies and stylish lyrics. The track is opened up by Evita Koné's sublime vocal tone that glides over Deal-M's soothing backdrop, this is followed by verses from Dr. Koul and Imagine who add their perspective on love, luxury and decadence in these crazy times. Koné gets ample time on this record and she delivers the goodness of pure neo-soul tinged with her distinct voice.
The visual is helmed by Isolde Penwarden (filmmaker for Vice – I.D) who puts the trio in an exotic setting that displays their different characteristics. The use of short performance shots and abstract storyboarding and warm aesthetics sure gives the visual a unique feel that is both experimental and engaging from start to finish. Again, singer Koné gets much screen time on this one while her partners play certain roles to help tie things together. Other contributors to the song include guitarist Erwan Valazza, Dj Tiny Tim who provides mild scratches, and flutist Ewan Dayot. "Wassup" is taken from their new LP When The Moon Goes Around The Sun.
