Mariposa is a rising rap act of Colombian and Italian descent whose fiery single "Callan" caught our attention. The record is a prime example of self-expression of identity as she seeks new ways to make her mark in the male-dominated space. From the jump, she lays down the law and promises listeners that she will not be silent in the face of oppression. Mariposa ensures the message sure doesn't get lost in the sauce as the booming drill backdrop is pronounced but also delivers it in a way that is entertaining and thought-provoking as well. The production was crafted by Cozart and Bolo.
The visual was directed by her frequent collaborator Nayim Saddek Mracha who helps bring her unique energy to the screen. It makes use of a mix of performance shots, short cut scenes all peppered by the community-inspired energy that threads people of different backgrounds together. Mariposa is fully represented in this one as she brings to the fore her genre-defying sound and honest lyrics.
