Toronto-based rapper/producer Cadence Weapon is readying a brand new LP and in the interim, teams up with producer Jacques Greene on his lead single "SENNA." The title is an homage to famed Brazillian F1 driver Ayrton Senna and also a celebration of self-determination.
Backed by a brooding drill instrumental ripe with futuristic sound designs and rumbling drums, Cadence Weapon wields the badge of an impassioned individual following his own path. Unperturbed by the outside world, he makes his rules and his choices are his to ponder on alone. I must add that his delivery is quite engaging as he switches from chilled to energetic as the beat dictates. and he even adds in a short spoken-word piece about being true to oneself at the end. The track is a reunion of many sorts as the last time Cadence Weapon and Greene teamed up was back in 2018 on his self-titled LP.
The video has a dark cinematic aesthetic and makes use of moody lighting alluding to some type of dystopian world different from ours. They also use long performance shots and car scenes that add some form of urgency to the video as well.
