Irish alternative hip-hop act Uppbeat is back with his moody new collaboration with TikTok star Elle Lexxa titled "Cigarettes".
After a very busy 2020, Uppbeat has already started this year off running. After dropping close to a dozen singles last year and demo tape to boot, the Mayo MC gave 2021 no time to rest when he dropped "Tin Can Man" last month. Back already with another single, "Cigarettes" with a feature from rising TikTok influencer Elle Lexxa, Uppbeat looks to continue this hot run of form.
"Cigarettes" see's Uppbeat dive into the more melodic side of his arsenal. This moody trap-R&B instrumental smothers the listener in luscious pads and texturally dark drum patterns. Uppbeat paints a vivid picture of a muse after a night out in this catchy chorus. Elle Lexxa delivers a solid verse and the chemistry between the two parties involved is notably potent. Also of note would be the interesting vocal mix decisions throughout the track. Interesting use of pitch correction and shifting to create a sense of movement and evolution to the record. Overall, wonderfully produced and executed mood music.
Uppbeat has been on a mission since he drooped his Enter Aquarius album in 2019. Showing constant growth now for over the year, it is clear we are seeing something special evolve here. It will be interesting to see where Uppbeat decides to take us next. The journeys always the fun part.
