Following the highly praised “Say It Ain’t So” last year, rising UK singer-songwriter Maya Law returns for 2021 with new single “Hitchhiking”.
The new release will also feature as the title track on her upcoming EP this year. Floating amongst soothing strings and layered harmonies, Law’s dreamy vocals act as the soundtrack to her journey through hard times whilst offering a form of escapism and the sense of freedom hitchhiking can provide. Drifting between rich soul flavours and enchanting folk elements, Law has acquired the rare ability to capture a difficult period in life and transform it into a beacon of hope with her musical prowess:
“I wrote Hitchhiking when I was feeling low and sorry for myself and it was my way of forcing myself to get out of bed and sort my shit out. I have to admit it's probably the only 'feel good' track I've ever written.”
Emerging from the quiet suburbs of Norfolk, Law has risen from strength to strength in recent months with an honest and heartfelt approach that offers refreshing insights into her personal experiences with mental health and being a queer woman of colour. Offering a unique blend of neo-soul, folk and R&B, she's garnered support from the likes of BBC Radio 1Xtra, 6 Music, Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 and Jamie Cullen on BBC Radio 2 with her signature sound.
With “Hitchhiking” providing hope for of a brighter year ahead, Maya Law stands out amongst her peers with a mature style and songwriting ability far beyond her years that places her firmly on the map as one to watch in the months to come.
