FN Code and Saint Mvrs present the 'Catalyst'

FN Code and Saint Mvrs are a couple of emerging Rhode Island native artists who recently joined forces to record a 5 track project titled Catalyst. The project was recorded in a few months and aims to showcase what these new upstarts have to offer us as they are in the process of slowly build up their catalog.

The EP is short and filled to the brim with moody, laidback textures and the duo's characteristic melody infused flows. Thematically it is as seamless as can be and provides the listener with the perfect soundtrack for a sunny afternoon drive. The duo does live up to the title of the project and we hear how they both complement one another with their different vocal textures and approaches. Tracks like "Tyke" and the opener "Brutus" set the pace with their surreal production and a plethora of carefree performances that range from drowsy to haphazard cadences.  The mood switches up on the bouncy soul production on "Starz" which details the herb influenced bravado lines like  "She get a whiff, she tell me I'm smelling Godly/ She said God, I said hardly/ 2 hands gripping like a Harley, big body, smoke like a Marley." This is followed by the somber closer "Simply" which has a more insightful premise as the duo gives the listeners an uplifting message of being true to oneself regardless of the odds.

While the cohesiveness of the project is without a shred of doubt, the rappers involved don't attempt to go overheads and keep things as simple as possible. The topics aren't mind-blowing and they don't quite reveal much of themselves but that doesn't take away from the enjoyable music they produced here. We can only hope for more as they continue to build on their discography.
