Giggs debuted his new mixtape Now or Never on November 6th. The suprise 16-track release included features from Jorja Smith, Dave, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Kyze, Aystar, Tiny Boost, Demarco, Obongjayar, and Emeli Sande. This is Giggs's first release since his 2019 album, BIG BAD.
Now or Never kicks off with the mixtape's eponymous track "Now or Never", produced by Two4Kay. Gigg's manner is relaxed while cooly sliding on the track. Sticking to his style of experimentation, Now or Never blurs the lines between genres, producing tracks that give nod to Grime, dancehall, trap, and Afrobeats. Approaching his new tape like a seasoned veteran, he delivers laidback verses while his features take the spotlight. "No Back Bone" finds the UK-rapper arrogantly rattling off malicious lyrics, but with the support of Aysar and Tiny Boots, the track doesn't get lost in the meddling pot of songs. Giggs creates a solid balance of radio rap and sleepers, like on the irresistibly catchy, "Changed Me". A Boogie Wit da Hoodie's high-energy "crooning", offsets his nonchalant presentation. While the project does lean heavily on the support of some great features, Now or Never still leaves room for Giggs to show-off his no-nonsense style.
Giggs has rightfully found his place in the UK rap scene and has been since his debut release Walk in Da Park, back in 2008. Since then he has gradually become bigger and better, rapping alongside fan favorites like Stormzy, Drake, and Skepta. With no sign of stopping, the rapper continues to keep his foot on the gas.
