To celebrate twenty one years of existence, Robert Johnson have released a new various artist compilation, dedicated to the late Andrew Weatherall — one of the club incredibly well loved residents. Spanning twenty one tracks, including contributions from Red Axes, Roman Flügel, Secretsundaze and Axel Boman, the mega-compilation covers everything one might expect to hear on RJ’s infamous dancefloor.

No stone has been left unturned with this one; from Balearic and eccentric to energetic, raw and dubby, there’s something in here for everyone. A true celebration of the club’s history and culture, Lifesaver 4 is the next best thing to celebrating on the dancefloor. An early contribution from Pathera Krause, “Strings of Plagwitz” captures the end-of-the-night euphoria impeccably. A real chugger laced with groove and joyful strings, this one was made for breezy, beachfront sunrises.

At the dreamy, soothing end of the spectrum sit tracks like Massimiliano Pagliara’s “Before I Let You Go,” TCB’s “Lucified Dub” and Portable’s “Unity”. Ethereal synths, minimalistic basslines and gentle melodies sit at the forefront of these tracks, making them ideal selections for heavy relaxation sessions or opening up the club.

Things get a bit more rough and ready in Davis’ “Mil Reais,” with acid tinges, hefty percussion and lively breaks making it wholly dancefloor-centred. Damian von Erckert keeps the energy flowing in “Hideaway” with luscious vocals giving the track major oldskool vibes. No doubt a future summer anthem, it’s ecstatic house music at its best; sign us up for a whole night of this please! The compilation takes a weird and wonderful turn in Cedric Dekowski’s “Livius.” It's filled with bloops and whirls, layered over a bouncy bassline and and vibrant melodies — whilst we can’t get out to dance properly, it’s perfect for the days spent hopping around the house.

From young talents to seasoned companions, the musical tributes to both Robert Johnson and Andrew Weatherall couldn’t come together better. Each track is carefully crafted, brimming with elation and love. It’s the compilation we didn’t know we wanted, but that we most definitely need.

Lifesaver Compilation 4 can be streamed and purchased via Bandcamp.
