Belgian artist Justine Bourgeus' dark pop nom de plume Tsar B has taken powerful strides forward in a few short years. Ahead of her forthcoming EP Unpaintable, her distinct soundscape broadens even further, as evident on the orchestral-leaning title track, the gloomily lavish collaboration with Mauro, "Devil Baby," and the warped lament, "Rome (Solve You)."
Now with a new music video to release for the second collaboration of the EP, "Flitch," Tsar B connects with London-based alternative rock duo Nova Twins.
Wholly harmonising in the space between the two artists' sounds, Tsar B delivers dark alluring trappings in a more aggressive and in your face manner than ever before. The introduction performs much like her back catalogue, with its enveloping textures and shadowy mystique completed by foreboding synth bass and icy vocal lines. A sharp drum ushers in the rapid change of pace, elevating the track into an attitude-laden foray delivered by a wonky, trap-flavoured production. Simplistic in said production, it grants aches of spaces for the vocalist. Each respective line takes centre stage with a scathing lyricism that runs parallel to the grit of the production with remarkable finesse.
Sharing the hypnotic, fish-eye visual exclusively with EARMILK, Tsar B elucidates to the collaboration in an email statement, sharing that, “I was so happy Nova Twins agreed to be a part of Flitch, feel like it’s a match made in heaven! I love their energy and aesthetic, remotely working on the song and video was an interesting but rewarding experience. I love the girls’ modesty and crazy talent and absolutely can’t wait for new music from them.”
"Flitch" releases 23rd of October, and appears on forthcoming EP Unpaintable, dropping October 30th.
