Toronto's DIY scene icons Teenanger have shared their latest single, "Romance For Rent" off their forthcoming album Good Time set to be released October 2nd.
"Romance For Rent" kicks off with percussive drums and snappy guitar riffs that play on the 90's pop-punk angle to the band's sound. As the track progresses, waves of crashing drums and soaring backup vocals create dynamic movement and head-nodding energy. Buoyant melodies contrast with the lyrics that focus on strangeness of online dating and the decisions we make when we feel vulnerable.
The accompanying visuals were shot in the height of quarantine and focus on one of the soul sucking activities that fill a lonely day – watching friend's lives on social media. In the video a man tries to find quick fixes to loneliness on the internet by making some questionable purchases, namely Nick Cave and Jeff Goldblum meme pillows. The video is lighthearted but ultimately gets at the restlessness and isolation that many of us have experienced in the past few months.
The energy of "Romance For Rent" offers an exciting glimpse into Teenanger's upcoming album which was crafted in their DIY home studio after a vicious bout of writer's block, and marks their long anticipated return to the Toronto scene.
Catch Good Time out October 2nd on Telephone Explosion Records.
