Letters From Jerusalem founder Raffaele Attanasio has released his debut on Regal’s Involve Records with a four track EP, Bohemian Grove. Serving everything one might expect from a release on Involve, Bohemian Grove is relentlessly groovy warehouse music that was made with the dancefloor in mind.
Following releases on labels such as the mighty Monnom Black, Attanasio has spent the last few years truly honing in on his sound, with the end product being the perfect equilibrium between merciless and exuberant. “Cube” kicks things off with a pumping bassline, subtle acid lines and choppy, muffled vocals; with the first track sounding like this, it’s obvious he means business.
The rest continue where “Cube” leaves things. “Oni,” to put it simply, is a rave tune — through and through. Perhaps even more fun than “Cube,” this is techno that was really designed to get your body moving. Pulsing bass, swinging synths and percussive stabs make this track suitable for one place only; somewhere extremely sweaty. Title track “Bohemian Grove” is somewhat more minimalistic than it’s surrounding tracks. Emulating major stripped-back groove, it pairs a rolling bassline with entrancing chords to build a hypnotic, early-morning anthem. Deconstructed vocals are just the icing on the cake with this one. “Gladio” closes things off in immaculate style.
Offering a rough and raw sound, immaculate breakbeats which break down into moments of mechanical abrasiveness give “Gladio” a completely unique sound. A standout on the release, the balance between smooth groove and jagged elements blend together in a pristine manner. Bohemian Grove can be streamed and purchased via Bandcamp.
