Chicago indie rock trio Dehd have shared a video for single “Flood”, lifted from their forthcoming album titled Flower of Devotion.
In keeping with the minimal but punchy grooves found on Dehd's previous album Water, new release "Flood" uses deceptively simple instrumentation to build a compelling meditation on the turmoil of love. “Flood” walks the line between renewal and destruction, offering hope one minute and anguish the next. Spacious drums, thrumming bass, moody guitar riffs, and emotive lyrics meld together on this undeniably cool track.
The accompanying video is directed by vocalist and bassist Emily Kempf alongside Andrew Miller. The visual has a dramatic allure as Kempf appears alone — as though having strayed away from a glamorous party — wearing a white dress while walking into the ocean and slouching around a dark movie theatre. Cinematic slow-motion captures Kempf's graceful choreography that ebbs and flows to meet the track's emotional impact.
As Kempf explains, “a flood is a powerful, uncontrollable, devastating. Water can nourish or destroy.” This ambiguity makes “Flood” the perfect track to play during a brooding late night walk or an early morning stroll along an empty beach.
