First emerging onto the beat-making scene in 2013 with his "Native Echoes" EP, Massachusetts-native Big Wild's sound has greatly evolved in accordance with his meteoric rise. He nows leads a dance-leaning future-pop niche entirely of his own creation, one that defies boundaries whilst retaining his distinct creative character and rarely staying the same. Looking back on his stratospheric trajectory, he looks to a track that changed it all for him, "Afterglow," a no-doubt fan favourite among his ever-expanding audience.
Initially an instrumental, the irrefutably feel-good grooves captivated many, including Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Styrke, who took the track to the next level with her honeyed vocal tones; only proving to further compound the success of the track, which now sits at over a hundred million streams with both versions. To celebrate, Big Wild and his label Foreign Family Collective commemorate the standout hit with an anniversary EP, which features the instrumental, the vocal version, a live version from Red Rocks amphitheatre and remixes from label mates obli and Hanz.
Talking to the momentous occasion in the email press release, Big Wild states that "It’s hard for me to believe ‘Aftergold’ came out 5 years ago. I remember working on this in my bedroom and on the road while I was opening for ODESZA. I was struggling to name the song and it was Harrison [of ODESZA] who recommended ‘Aftergold.’ As soon as I heard that name, I knew it was the one. Amazing to think how much these few minutes of music impacted my life and for that I’m thankful.”
