For its latest release, IN / ROTATION welcomes back two previous artists to its catalog who have graced the label on separate occasions. Maximono and Lowdown have come together to bring the funk back in "Dr. Phunk," showing us their full appreciation of house music.
"When Lowdown and I met in Brisbane, Australia last year, we recognized how similar our roots in funk and hip-hop were, so we decided to come up with a house track that combines these worlds for us," Maximono shares. ""Dr.Phunk" was pure fun to work on it—sure won't be our last track together."
Ostensibly funky from its initial vocals, Maximono and Lowdown ultimately fashion a growling tech-house banter that fully encompasses their similarities. Marked by warbling synth work that's evenly spaced out by varying elements of dance music, "Dr. Phunk" takes us on a journey that traverses a new world, marked by video-game aesthetics. From the sassy saxophone to the infectious breakdowns, the duo show us an electrifying number house number representative of their combined signatures.
Maximono is a house-head based out of Hannover who spent his earlier days in the drum and bass realm, before moving on to four-four pastures and locked in releases with Dirtybird, This Ain't Bristol, Cuff and more. On the other hand, Lowdown is set up in Australia with a tasty track record that has seen him touch down on Confessions, Night Bast, Box of Cats.
