The depths of love reach star-high on Toronto songbird Nicole Chambers’ new single, “Take Flight”. Over the melody of spacey synths and deep bass, Chambers sings about a feeling that has sparked from within after encountering an aura that's truly out of this world.
It is not a certain person, however, that has Chambers starstruck. It's simply the feeling of being in awe at the thought of a certain type of love. “Take flight was written about a love I one day hope to encounter. I say that because no, I haven’t found it yet but it’s something I am manifesting,” Nicole shares with EARMILK over email. “It’s the story of me meeting someone who comes into my life and completely changes my whole perception of falling in love. So much so, that I am prepared to risk it all and leave everything in this world behind.”
Toronto rapper Stretch provides the track with a layer of poetic complexities about the nature of love, his words contrasting perfectly with the intergalactic-R&B beat. “Take Flight”’s innocent confessions give us hope that the idea of true love is not always too good to be true. It shows that the fantasy of living happily ever after with a soulmate is not far-fetched after all.
