As an artist, Bay Area vocalist Lalin St. Juste’s reflections on the tumultuous state of the current political and social climate has led to some profound musical statements that are just now being released. Her group The Seshen is gearing up for the release of their upcoming album CYAN on Tru Thoughts and has delivered the LP’s third single entitled “Take It All Away.” With the new release, The Seshen reminds us that in times of adversity, deep reflection, as well as a healthy dose of music can help turn the tides for a better tomorrow.
“We were on tour… during the 2016 US election. There was an intense heaviness, a familiar one, one that extends generations and it just sunk in even further… this album is about pulling back the layers of who I am in order to push through sadness and grab onto what’s underneath,” St. Juste remarked about the new project in a press release. “Take It All Away” communicates the weighty emotions beautifully with help from bassist and producer Akiyoshi Ehara. The thumping drum and synth pulses provide a dense foundation for St. Juste’s sensitive lyrics and ethereal delivery as her voice glides through the lush soundscapes.
CYAN is The Seshen's third full-length album and will be released on February 28. The LP is available to pre-order here.
