Singer-songwriter Axel Flóvent has released his new single “Driving Hours”. It's with a soft track of graceful piano and ambient instrumentals that the Icelandic artist makes his North American debut. The single’s video features Flóvent riding along rain splattered roadways with backgrounds of burning sunsets and dim landscapes of city and country.
Flóvent has a number of EPs under his belt. His first EP Forest Fires utilizes the influences of Bon Iver and Bombay Bicycle Club. His latest EP Youthful Hearts was recorded in Brighton, UK after a time spent living in Amsterdam. He returned to Iceland, embarking on this March's expected release, the Tourist EP. Produced by Ian Grimble, known for work on releases by Mumford & Sons, Daughter, and Bear’s Den to name a few, I'm excited to hear how his influence melds with the similar style Flóvent possesses.
The music video for “Driving Hours” reminds me of the lands Flóvent has traveled. The grey dawn seaside of England and the fir trees of Iceland. Born and raised in the northern fishing village of Húsavík, Flóvent has a naturally flawless vocal range, rising and falling dramatically alongside heavy piano chords and singular electric instrumentals. After listening to this single, I’m anxious to hear Flóvent’s creativity and vocals on a brand new project. Armed with a praised producer, Tourist will be without a doubt a true showcase of Axel Flóvent's talent.
