Toronto-based R&B duo dvsn is back to put us in the mood with their new single "A Muse". Comprised of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85, the group is making a return to their signature alt-R&B sound, as"A Muse" comes after a pretty dull 2019 release of songs that just seemed to miss the mark. "A Muse" is a sexy and seductive cut dedicated to those late nights.
Nineteen85 flips Lonnie Liston Smith's "A Garden of Peace" into provocative bedroom music. If you're unfamiliar with the original, you have probably heard Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents" interpolation of the song at least once. Daley's falsetto paints vivid pictures of salacious late nights wrapped in the sheets. His vocals are climatic and fluid, blending in with Nineteen85's velvety twist on the sample. The rhythmic pulses of the bass add fuel to the drug-induced track. Similar to their OVO counterparts, dvsn works best over alluring and slinky production.
dvsn is starting off the top of the year in a good way. The group's last album Morning After debuted back in 2017. The full-length project didn't hit as hard as their sensual freshman album Sept. 5th. With only a handful of singles throughout 2019, the group has left listeners yearning for a lot more. They've been lurking in the shadows ever since, but "A Muse" gives hope that there is more to come.
