New Zealand hip-hop artist Melodownz is making big moves with the release of his new single “No Mercy,” featuring Denzel Curry, and accompanying music video. Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Smoke, “No Mercy” is the first single since Melodownz’s 2018 Melo & Blues album.
The hyperactive track hints at what Melodownz has in store for us next year. He's already proven to be a mainstay of New Zealand’s hip-hop scene since his 2017 debut album Avontales, and now he’s ready to take on the world with a little help from Denzel Curry. The video is a choppy patchwork of grainy footage capturing performances and the recording sessions from which "No Mercy" was made. Meanwhile, Melodownz and Curry exchange bars with finesse above ominous bass lines and faint, sinister melodies. Although they hail from opposite sides of the world, both artists flow together on the same wavelength.
“No Mercy” is a brazen war song. Melodownz explains that the track is all about “being resilient, not giving up, not giving a fuck and just showing up and going hard no matter what the situation.” Be prepared; you might want to fight your enemies or inner demons after listening to the track.
