There’s a newly formed duo in hip-hop that should not be slept on. Legendary Detroit MC Guilty Simpson and New Zealand producer Leonard Charles have joined forces to create The Leonard Simpson Duo and have a new album due out January 31 on Jakarta Records entitled LSD. The pair shows their incredible chemistry on a tantalizing preview of the LP with the new single “Nobody.”
As the album’s title implies, Charles delivers production with a tangible influence from 1970s psychedelia and acid culture, with the added element of Simpson’s signature witty writing and hard-hitting delivery. On “Nobody,” Charles expertly blends a sample of Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding’s gorgeous track “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore” with a little boom-bap. The thumping beat is a fitting foundation for Simpson’s fiery lyrics that give the track an undeniable sense of grounded rawness. The song closes with a gripping, trippy guitar solo that punctuates the duo’s versatile capabilities. “Nobody” proves that Guilty Simpson and Leonard Charles make a formidable duo and should get many ears perked up for the forthcoming album.
"Nobody" is available to download and LSD is available to pre-order here.
