UK-based STORME releases single “Queen” today. A tantalizing, heavier track, the Swedish duo fulfill my checklist when it comes to the pop genre; unique vocals, addicting rhythms, and a breath-taking chorus.
The song begins almost stripped down completely. All the emphasis is on the voice of STORME’s one half Amanda Liedberg – proving to be a well crafted hook. At the height of the chorus I hear Scandinavian electronic influence as a semi-chant of voices illuminates the background. The duo doesn’t hold back, melding epic bass drops with piercing repetition that is addicting to the ear. Described as a goodbye letter with a twist, Liedberg says the single is “inspired by the worst day of my life. I realized I’d suffered enough, my eyes were dry and I was ready to walk away from a toxic relationship.” “Queen” is a roaring, dramatic piece that reminds me of how wide and immersive the breadth of pop music is.
