The question of identity often lingers throughout our adolescent years and may be further amplified when we experience our first love—and loss. LA indie-pop songwriter Hayden Everett gracefully tackles the subject of identity and love in his newest release "Who Are You", a feature on his forthcoming debut self-titled EP.
"Who Are You" expresses doubt and questions surrounding identity and the power of love," explains Everett on his new single. "The song contrasts hypocrisy with authenticity." Opening the ballad with shimmering synths and luscious risers, Everett swoops in with breathy croons that dance in tandem with the claps, leaving you feeling all the more wistful in its wake. Soft yet explosive in its passion, Everett manages to sway us in falsettos and nostalgic notes, reaffirming music's universal ability to make us all feel our most human.
Hayden Everett hails from the San Francisco bay area, where he developed his passion for songwriting and the outdoors. With roots in jazz piano as well as folk and indie music, Everett's sound leans into lush harmony, smooth soundscapes, and heavy-hitting rhythm—inspiring peace, recognizing beauty whilst teetering between doubt and joy, striving to create more compassion and wonder through the songs that he writes.
