When the name Manu Dia dropped into my inbox, my interest was immediately piqued by the young producer's involvement with my beloved Dutch duo DROELOE. However, what I found after the jump was far beyond the realm of a figure in the co-producer's chair. The fresh track "Stranger" establishes Manu Dia as a talent all his own. "Stranger" comes as the lead single lifted from his debut EP SURFACE, out now via TOKiMONSTA's exciting imprint Young Art Records.
"Stranger" has a markedly erratic tone, which Manu Dia describes as "organised chaos." Hazy, zippy sound design rattles around your brain, seemingly bouncing off the walls as new melodies build atop increasingly zany samples. There is an ever so subtle call back to the nostalgic vibe hallmarked by many in DROELOE's camp, but Manu Dia approaches this pensive attitude with a totally unique energy, both in his production and intention for the song's message. "There comes a point in each of our lives when we face a choice and must point ourselves towards an end goal or destination – whatever it may be," remarks the artist. "SURFACE is a reflection of this journey with every piece within acting as a stepping stone on the path."
