They say not to judge a cover by its book, or in this case, by its name. But make no mistake- London singer-songwriter John James Davies is every bit as vibrant as his chosen stage name L.A Peach. In his own way. Witty with grit, he effortlessly dances around indie and pop, bridging the two sensibilities in a sound that can only be described as his own. His latest single, "I Can Remember Where You Are" is a stark combination of soothing guitar licks and startling lyrics.
When describing the track, Davies explains that "It took me a while to figure out what I’d written after I’d written it, but now I know, it’s a song about love- a person loves another person so much that he kidnaps her and steals her skin." If you can get past the "Silence of the Lambs" flashbacks, you will find that "I Can Remember Where You Are" truly does embody the delicacies of a love song. Tender guitar melodies swim over a slacker pop percussion, gently rolling over each other in a sweet embrace.
Unassuming and soulful female vocals back up Davies' soft lines, reminiscent of a couple's first dance. It's a subtle declaration of love, but one nonetheless. In one swift motion, L.A Peach proves that romance is in fact still very much alive, even at the hands of an unconventional songwriter.
