"That would have sounded better without the triumphant brass," said no one, ever. Alexander Lewis, a multi-instrumentalist from LA, has been gaining a following off of this principal alone: if something sounds good, it'll probably sound better with horns. If you don't believe me, just check out his remix of Kanye's "All of the Lights". By understanding the role horns can play in hip-hop he adds a level of grandeur to push the sounds of triumph and victory without ever saying a word.
"Win the War" is Alexander Lewis' first single off the Red EP that is slated for release this summer. In this case, Alexander enlists B.Anderson's braggadocios wordplay to match his undefeated production.
Lewis enlists an 8-piece band to give the song an "organic" feel that strays from the typical 808-heavy sound that dominates the scene at the moment. The passion of the song is mainly built off Lewis' horns, but let's not discredit B.Anderson's delivery. The song plays like a story of doing whatever it takes to overcome the obstacles that stand before them. Alexander Lewis describes the song as:
"… overcoming obstacles, pushing boundaries and coming out on top. It's for everyone facing a challenge and taking it head on. We've both had out fair share of setbacks in this industry, but we're both in it for the long haul. Every loss prepared us for victory. Red EP is a victory and we consider this record a win. This is Win The War."
"Win the War" is an all-out attack on the senses and makes the statement that these two will win the war for your ears.
