Don’t be surprised if the name Polar Youth takes off in the near future. The Belgian producer, A.K.A. Elisabeth Verstraete, already has a smattering of credits to her name but has now offered a glimpse at her upcoming debut EP with the single “Call Out.” The song not only shows Polar Youth’s deft production skills, but it also features Belgian vocalist WAYI and American artist Lani Rose. It is one of several collaborative tracks on the yet-to-be-named EP that is due for release this summer.
Polar Youth promises that the EP will be personal in nature, stating, “I’m not a woman of many words but all you have to know about me can be heard through my EP.” On “Call Out,” she opted to tackle the broadly experienced topic of heartbreak. She gives the well-trodden theme an original spin with pulsing synth bass notes and contemplative chords as WAYI and Rose trade verses about a complicated relationship. The three artists converge seamlessly under the umbrella of Polar Youth’s concise songwriting. If the track is any indication, the forthcoming EP, along with Polar Youth’s career, will be one to watch.
