One-third of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Shafiq Husayn releases a cosmic eargasm LP dubbed The Loop. When it comes to future soul, abstract beats, infectious hip hop and cosmic jazz, Shafiq has created a lane of his own.
With his complex musical background and his versatile ability, Shafiq’s latest offering is no doubt a beautiful masterpiece. The 17-track project saw its inception in 2012 through a series of studio sessions at Shafiq’s home, including collaborations with the likes of Thundercat, Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, Bilal and Anderson Paak.
The Loop was created deeply rooted in ideas of song, story, history, guidance and spirituality. Through each track, listeners are taken on a celestial psychedelic journey. Whilst it’s impossible to pick just one favourite track, one that stands out if Mrs Crabtree which features Erykak Badu, N’Dambi & Set SoSavvy which is groovy and oozes nu jazz and soul.
