Slipknot's Corey Taylor joins Kid Bookie for the revamp of “Stuck In My Ways”

South East London rapper Kid Bookie has been on the radar of many lately, including his childhood hero Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor. The artist told BBC 1Xtra “Before anything, I grew up on rock music. I grew up on Slipknot.” His dream of collaborating with Taylor became a reality through a Twitter conversation, the fruit of which is the intriguing remix of Bookie’s “Stuck In My Ways” which appeared on his EP Shake Up.

My favorite thing about this well-orchestrated fusion of rock and hip-hop is the use of different rhythmic patterns. It starts with the hook which softly prepares the ears for the aggressiveness that comes, with Bookie’s flow and the explosion of rap and rock during Taylor’s takeover. This isn't the Slipknot vocalist's first stab at rap — most notably on “Spit It Out,” a single off the bands self-titled album — but his performance on this song is a showcase of the frontman’s dynamic vocal and lyrical prowess. A jaw-dropping moment in his verse is the rhyme-slinging part where he raps: “…One of the ingrates just landed / non of your minds have expanded / now that the gang is disbanded / who have you taken red-handed.” Hip-hop and rock fans will walk away from this Lewis Cullen produced single equally satisfied and thrilled.
