The return of Alabama’s own Catfish Billy is upon us. Over the last few weeks, Yelawolf has been dropping a plethora of freestyles including, “Mountain Dew Mouth” and “Elvis Messy.” None of them have made as much noise as his most recent, “Bloody Sunday,” where he takes aim at Post Malone, G-Eazy, and Machine Gun Kelly. With all that hype building up, it is fitting Yelawolf drop off his latest release, “TM3.”
The introduction to this record is actually the same introduction Yelawolf used on the first tape of the series, Trunk Muzik. Not only that, but the back to back hi-hats on the beat are also reminiscent of Yelawolf’s classic, “Pop The Trunk” which is on that same Trunk Muzik project. What this subtly tells us is that Yelawolf is getting back to his roots and his hip-hop bag after taking a hiatus since releasing Trial by Fire in 2017. Yelawolf shows off his coined country infused hip-hop flow and lyrical arsenal with bars like, "The priest was thinkin' I'm Illuminati 'cause Eminem is a close kin, He might as well be 'cause I give 'em hell for that white bread, put the toast in." Something that may have gone over the listener’s ear on the first take is the last few bars of the song where Yelawolf continues to keep his foot on Post Malone rapping, "Cause I'm a marvelous shit starter, I'm poppin' a hit, causin' the market to flip harder, a product of rock and roll, these suckers just pickpocket the creative profit and go remake it to make a dollar." Yelawolf is alluding to the alleged appropriation of rock music Post Malone uses in his content. The fire that Yelawolf has started leading up to Trunk Muzik 3 has fans ogling over the March 29th release.
