Joy Williams's music video for her latest single “Front Porch” is moving, passionate, and reflects the emotion in William's voice and lyrics. Directed by brother and sister Alexa and Stephen Kinigopoulos, the video tells the story of the trials and bitter realities of a young interracial couple in the 1960s.
The music video showcases these hardships, while also highlighting the beauty and rawness of this love story; both themes that appear in William’s latest piece. That ethereal voice sings “‘Cause darling we’re all a little splintered and battered, But the light is on, what you waiting for? Come on back, come on back to the front porch”. It's a song about returning to a place you’ve always known, regardless of what you’ve been through. Formerly one half of the Grammy-winning duo The Civil Wars, the title track to her sophomore solo album shows Williams returning to an Americana, folk-inspired sound. She has written for and collaborated with artists such as Ruston Kelly, Paramore, and many others. Her knack for lyricism and haunting voice are just two examples of why Williams is an inspiring musician, and a fitting feature for today, International Women's Day.
Produced with Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids, Front Porch is due out May 3rd.
