Finding quality boom bap these days, dusty beats and poetic rhymes hearkening back to hip hop's Golden Age, is a tall task. But some artists, like Steve Spiffler and Jamla Records standout GQ, can easily reach such heights.
Enlisting the help of former Big K.R.I.T. DJ Wally Sparks doesn't hurt either.
Spiffler's latest record, "Smashing Cans," packs the vintage yet freshly picked vibes we've come to expect from the Stockton-based emcee and producer. Despite the song's title, this joint is far from recycled. Both spitters bring their A-game on the mic, and Spiffler also produces the track's dusty instrumental that pieces together some ill strings with a hook masterfully scratched by Wally Sparks.
